ABSTRACT

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the prognostic significance of IKZF1 gene deletion in patients with acute B lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL) . Methods: The clinical data of 142 patients with B-ALL diagnosed in Nanfang Hospital between March 2016 and September 2019 were analyzed. Results: IKZF1 deletion was found in 36.0% of the 142 patients with B-ALL, whereas exon 4-7 deletion was found in 44.0% . White blood cell counts were higher in patients with the IKZF1 deletion (52.0% and 28.3% , P=0.005) ; these patients also experienced worse effects of mid-term induction therapy (40.0% and 70.7% , P<0.001) and had a higher proportion of Philadelphia chromosome-positive (52.0% and 21.7% , respectively, P<0.001) . Univariate analysis revealed that the 3-year overall survival rate (OS) and event-free survival rate (EFS) in the IKZF1 deletion group were significantly lower than the IKZF1 wild-type group [ (37.1±7.3) % vs (54.7±5.4) % , (51.8±7.9) % vs (73.9±4.7) % ; P=0.025, 0.013, respectively]. Multivariable analysis showed that harboring IKZF1 deletion was an adverse factor of EFS and OS (HR=1.744, 2.036; P=0.022, 0.020, respectively) . Furthermore, the IKZF1 deletion/chemotherapy group had significantly lower 3-year OS, EFS, and disease-free survival rates than other subgroups. In the IKZF1 deletion cohort, allo-hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) significantly improved OS and EFS compared to non-allo-HSCT[ (67.9±10.4) % vs (31.9±11.0) % , (46.6±10.5) % vs (26.7±9.7) % ; P=0.005, 0.026, respectively]. Conclusion: Pediatric-inspired chemotherapy was unable to completely reverse the negative effect of IKZF1 deletion on prognosis. Pediatric-inspired regimen therapy combined with allo-HSCT, in contrast, significantly improved the overall prognosis of IKZF1 deletion B-ALL.

ABSTRACT

This paper described global output of scientific publications on Zika virus disease during 1990 to 2016.Based on its literature search and analysis tools integrated on the Web of Science,we analyzed the year-,country-,affiliation-and author-specific literature production, publication journals, and scopes and citation of publications.A total of 1 818 publications associated with Zika virus disease were retrieved in Web of Science, during the period from 1990 through 2016,92.68% of the literatures were published in 2016.The 41.09 % of the literatures were published as "Original Article".The top 3 productive countries were USA,Brazil and France, and the top 3 productive affiliations were US CDC,Universidade de Sāo Paulo at Brazil and the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston in USA.The top 3 productive authors were Wiwanitkit Viroj,Musso Didier and Jamieson Denise J,and the most 3 cited authors were Musso Didier,Fischer Marc and Jamieson Denise J.A total of 111 publications by Chinese researchers were retrieved, ranking the fifth around the world, with the total citation of 727,with 6.5 citations per paper. From 1990 to 2016,American,Brazilian and French scientists contribute a lot to the research on Zika virus disease, which plays a very important role in promoting scientific development and academic communication.Chinese scientists also made contributions on Zika virus research in the science community during the past two years.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To study the clinical feature of extracranial and intracranial complications caused by cholesteatoma otitis media.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>A retrospective study as made of 78 patients with extracranial and intracranial complications caused by suppurative otitis media between January 1992 and December 2002 was conducted.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>Fifty-six of the 78 patients had one complication and the other 22 patients had two or more complications among them. In this series, 24 cases had facial paralysis, 16 cases with suppurative labyrinthitis, 12 cases with meningitis, 11 cases with periauricular abscess, 9 cases with extradural abscess, 9 case with otogenic meningitis brain abscess, 6 case with lesion of sigmoid sinus and 5 cases with Bezold abscess. Of the 24 patients with facial paralysis, 15 with continued nerves had obtained omatomic preservation of the facial nerves, The nerve function of 11 patients recovered from House-Brackmann grade IV to grade II, the rest 4 patients didn't regain after operation. Four of the 9 patients with their facial nerves broken received anastomosis of the facial nerves, three cases received transplantation of the nervus auricularis magnus, and two received anastomosis to nervus auricularis magnus. The nerve function recovered from House-Brackmann grade V - IV to grade III.</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>Even though the incidence of the complications has been low down in past years, there are still some serious complications. Temporal bone CT scan plays an important role in the diagnosis of extracranial and intracranial complications of cholesteatoma otitis media. The most reliable method to diagnosis and treat the complications is surgery.</p>
